World Snowboarding Championships

The World Snowboarding Championships (WSC) are the collective symbol of the global snowboard community; owned by TTR Pro Snowboarding and the World Snowboard Federation, created by all independent snowboard event organisers, nations and competitive snowboarders together. WSC's vision is to demonstrate to the world how great competitive snowboarding is when its run by snowboarders.

With the first ever WSC event taking place in beautiful Oslo - the winter capital of the world - February 10 - 19th 2012, the WSC will be a sparkling display of global youth culture and snowboarding lifestyle. The WSC is owned by the TTR World Tour (TTR) and the World Snowboard Federation (WSF) and has the backing of all event and nation members. 240 riders from 30 countries will gather in Oslo to battle for the glorious World Snowboarding Championships titles and a fantastic time!

WSC is the new pinnacle event of snowboarding and will be held every four years at great snowboarding resorts around the world. It is a freestyle event only with halfpipe, slopestyle as main formats. Big Air will be added to the program of the event in 2015. In Oslo 2012, a monster quarterpipe event in the legendary Holmenkollen ski jumping arena, will kickstart the finals.

The World Snowboarding Championships (WSC) aims to offer the best arenas, the best riders and the highest prize money. Half a million dollar is on the table and the prize money spread goes deep so more riders can enjoy it.

How To Qualify

The World Snowboarding Championships 2012 will have a maximum of 240 spots available for male and female athletes to compete across both slopestyle and halfpipe disciplines.

All qualified riders need to be within the top 500 men and top 250 women on the TTR Points Lists in the respective disciplines after January 23rd 2012 to be eligible to participate in the WSC 2012.

The Top 50 Men Halfpipe, Top 30 Women Halfpipe, Top 50 Men Slopestyle and Top 30 Women Slopestyle on the respective TTR Points Lists on January 23rd 2012 are automatically qualified for the WSC 2012. For Halfpipe spots, the Halfpipe Points List will be used, for Slopestyle spots, the Slopestyle Points List will be used. The Points Lists can be found here: http://www.ttrworldtour.com/ranking/points-lists/

Due to the postponement of the Burton European Open until after the World Championships in Oslo, TTR modified the qualification criteria for the international starting spots. As one measure, the O`Neill Evolution 6Star Big Air will count for the Slopestyle Points List. With O’Neill Evolution being the only Big Air competition on a 6Star level where women compete, this is a fair addition to increase the number of qualification opportunities for both men and women.

Other Ways To Qualify

Each WSF member Nation can qualify one rider for both men and women in each discipline.

All TTR World Tour Champions from the last three years (2008/09, 2009/10, 2010/11) are eligible to compete in all disciplines at WSC 2012.

All TTR 6Star title winners from the last 53 weeks prior to Monday, January 23rd, 2012, are eligible to compete in the discipline in which they won the title for.

Wild Cards: The organizing committee of the World Snowboarding Championships is entitled to qualify two additional competitors in each discipline for men and women (need to be approved by TTR/WSF).
