Event History
Stylewars aims to have the most progressive slopestyle kicker course of any event on the tour each year. Combine this with a true test of Australian Snowboarding Party lifestyle and you have Stylewars. A week long non-stop snowboarding festival.
Stylewars is made up of two events. The overall slopestyle and the night rail event. The rail event is not judged with the slopestyle and it allows riders who just ride street rails to showcase their skills.
The overall slopestyle runs as 3 days of competitions and 2 hour judged sessions per day. Riders can choose to be judged or not to be judged - it is up to them. A rider's top 3 scoring runs per day go to their overall score. Best man after 3 days wins the title and the money. The event is a lot about endurance. The person that can ride huge kickers for 3 days straight, compete in a night rail event and party every night has to be pretty tough. The past 2 previous winners have been Charles Reid (Canada) and Torstein Horgmo (Norway) with Torstein winning best trick 2 years running.
The Event has been running for 6 years and has grown annually with great rider feedback. The freestyle set up is world class and the format is loved by the riders as they have a great time riding with their friends as well as pushing each other to win the title. The southern hemisphere has taken a huge blow financially this year and therefore the sponsorship budgets have been reduced substantially. The event will go on and the important things will not reduce in quality or financial spend but the prize money can not go up nor can the infrastructure unfortunately. In 2008 Stylewars lifted to a whole new level with a combo of features that most riders claimed to be the biggest competition features on the TTR tour.
Straight off the bat the big guns stepped up to the course with Charles Reid, Torstein Horgmo, Chas Guldemond, Shane Posposil, Ryan Tiene, Robbie Walker and Jacob Koia all throwing down run after run. 120ft switch back 1260s by Torstein, inverted front 3s by Charles and clean switch back 9s by Ryan made the judging tough but come the end of the third and final day of park competition Charles was the winner with Torstein wining best trick and coming in right on Charles's heels.
