SWATCH TTR World Snowboard Tour first time in Stuttgart // January 4/5, 2011 // Neckarpark P9
Relentless BIGAIR Stuttgart 2011
Stuttgart is famous for making great leaps forward in sports. But if you wanted to see Backflips, Double Corks and Frontside Spins, you had to travel to the USA, to Scandinavia or at least to Innsbruck, Austria – to the Top-Snowboard-Events in the world. On January 4/5, 2011 the state capital is initially going to be in the focus of the international snowboard-scene: ‘Relentless BIGAIR Stuttgart’ is not only going to invite the world’s best riders to the Neckar – the Swabian metropolis will host Germany’s second biggest Snowboard-Contest. The new freestyle event is going to be part of the prestigious Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour. Relentless BIGAIR Stuttgart is going to take place directly in the city – in the Neckarpark between Cannstatter Wasen and the Mercedes-Benz-Arena on parking area P9.
Centrepiece and sensational eyecatcher of the two-day event is going to be the 36 metre high ramp, from which the boarders will show hazardous tricks before landing in the sweet spot. To satisfy the international contest criteria 250 tons of steel are necessary. After the landing a staircaseis waiting for the riders and they can show their skills sliding down the combination of stairs and rails as artistic as possible. A jury is judging the jumps and tricks altogether. The rider leading after both judgements awaits not only an enormous prize money of US$ 50,000, but also a bunch of world ranking points.
At Relentless BIGAIR Stuttgart the up-an-coming riders get a chance to qualify for the main contest as well. The winner of the Rookie-challenge can gain useful experience alongside the pros, using his wildcard for the main runs.
It goes without saying, that ideal snow conditions have to be provided at a TTR-Tour event. To play it safe, the organizer has taken precautions against the moody swabian winter and ordered snow directly from the Austrian Alps. In cooperation with the famous ski- and snowboard-region Sölden 1000 cubic metres of glacier snow are going to be transported to Stuttgart in 20 trucks.
The best known companies and retailers in the snowboard business will get the opportunity to make an appearance on January 4/5 in Stuttgart as well. On both days the fair ‘Brandstation’ will take place and firms will present trends and innovations in the scene. The ‘Brandstation’ is open to all visitors.
During and after the event some of Germany’s best DJs are going to take care of the proper sound and the perfect atmosphere – after all Relentless BIGAIR Stuttgart combines world-class-snowboarding and prime entertainment. Performing the ‘Wicked 4 Turntables Show’‘The Famous deck Team’ is going to fire up the crowd: with funk and soul, some 80ies legend and oldschool hip hop followed by electronic beats, the two turntable-acrobats rock dancefloors from small clubs to snowboard-events all over Europe. At the Aftershow-Party DJ Mixwell (Samy Deluxe), DJ Stylewarz (Double Trouble) and DJ 5ter Ton (Massive Töne) are doing the honours at the turntables.
Everyone who wants to get in the right mood for the main event on Wednesday can come by on Tuesday and watch the practice session – for free!
