TTR Burton New Zealand Open 2011 - Halfpipe Wrap Up

The first 5Star halfpipe competition of the 2011/12 TTR World Tour season is in the bag and Japanese rider, Ryo Aono, and American, Kelly Clark, took home the victories at the 2011 Burton New Zealand Open. It was another perfect day at Cardrona Alpine Resort and the level of riding was set high from the start by the talented field of international riders.  Ryo and Kelly both took home $7,000 NZD for their wins and earned 850 TTR ranking points that will count towards both the Halfpipe World Tour Ranking and the Overall World Tour Ranking lists.         The halfpipe finals ran the same format as slopestyle finals using a best-of-three-run format with men and women alternating runs.  Kelly Clark sketched on her first run leaving the door open for the other women including Queralt Castellet (ESP), Hannah Teter (USA) and Gretchen Bleiler (USA) who all have impressive tricks in their repertoire.  But, Kelly was able to nail her second run that held up to take the win, which was made up of a frontside 720, Cab 720, backside 540 and finished with a frontside 900.  Hannah Teter stomped a smooth run to take second place and Queralt Castellet was going big all day and ended up in third place. The men's leader board shifted with each run and the Japanese contingent was on fire putting down some impressive tricks.  In the end, it was Ryo Aono (JPN) who landed a near-flawless run consisting of a frontside 1080, Cab 1080, frontside 900, backside 900 and ended with a frontside double cork 1080.  Louie Vito (USA) was looking good all day taking second place and Iouri Podladtchikov (SUI) ended up in third.

Peetu Piiroinen Is Three Time TTR World Snowboard Champion

http://www.ttrworldtour.com - Last season, Peetu Piiroinen was the first ever snowboarder to win two TTR World Tour titles and has returned again this season to take an unprecedented third consecutive TTR title, a feat no other snowboarder has come close to touching. At the age of 23, Peetu has had an amazing run in competitive snowboarding with over 25 career podiums. Peetu started competing back in 1997 at the ripe age of 9-years old and has been steadily progressing his riding since. The key to Peetu's success on the TTR World Tour has been his ability to master all disciplines in freestyle snowboarding. This season, Peetu competed on three different continents and did not discriminate when choosing what types of events to attend. Peetu does it all and does it all well. He began this season in Asia at the 6Star Shaun White Oakley Air & Style in Beijing, China where he placed fifth in the big air competition. From Asia, he moved on to Europe where he took fourth place at the 6Star O'Neill Evolution halfpipe in Davos, Switzerland. Peetu found himself back on the podium when he took down the 6Star Burton European Open halfpipe title and placed second in slopestyle. And, at the 6Star Billabong Air & Style in Innsbruck, Austria, Peetu took another second place. TTR Is Settling The Score At Burton NZ Open

Following the successful launch of the Snowboarding Live Scoring System™ at The Oakley Arctic Challenge slopestyle last winter, major events on the Swatch TTR World Tour have agreed to work together to expand and implement the system for all halfpipe, slopestyle and big air competitions for the upcoming 2010/11 season.  The Live Scoring System is planned to be introduced across all 6Star TTR events in an effort to break down barriers posed by the current Overall Impression system and to improve the presentation and understanding of competitive freestyle snowboarding as a whole. In a tight partnership between TTR, the World Snowboard Federation, the events, judges and riders, the Live Scoring System was developed as a completely new way to judge snowboarding.  The current system in use, called Overall Impression, focuses on a rider's run in its entirety and provides little to no feedback to riders or spectators on how a score is generated.  The new Live Scoring System is more transparent and allows everyone to clearly see how judges give points by scoring each trick individually in a rider's run.  Each trick score is added up to generate a total trick score that is then combined with a total flow score (how well a rider links all tricks in the run) to make up the final score for a rider's run.The Live Scoring system will be used for the first time in both halfpipe and slopestyle at the 2010 Burton New Zealand Open. For full event results, news, videos and updates keep your eyes glued to the http://www.ttrworldtour.com website.
