Kelly Clark

What is your favourite place to ride and why?
I live in Mammoth Lakes California now, and I like to ride there because they get lots of snow and lots of sunny days too.

What age did you start snowboarding?
I started snowboarding when I was seven years old.

What snowboarders do you most look up to?
Growing up I looked up to Anne Molin and Nicola- they have influenced my riding more than most other people.

What do you focus on most - slopestyle? Pipe? Big Air? and why?
I ride pipe mostly. I like it because each hit is dependent on the former one, you need to have everything perfect in a pipe run for it to be good. And I like that there are lots of combinations of tricks/runs to get creative with.

What is your most memorable snowboarding experience?
I think winning the Olympics when I was 18 in my home country was the most memorable snowboarding experience.

Your on the road a lot throughout the season - what is your favourite place to visit and why?
I travel most of the year, I have two favorite places, New Zealand and Japan. Beautiful and very different from home.

What does a normal day consist of for you when your not snowboarding?
I like to hang with my friends, be outside and do fun things. Pretty much the same thing that I do when I am snowboarding.

How has TTR affected your snowboarding career?
TTR has been great for snowboarding. I like the idea of a tour to follow through out the year.

TTR Burton New Zealand Open 2011 - Halfpipe Wrap Up

The first 5Star halfpipe competition of the 2011/12 TTR World Tour season is in the bag and Japanese rider, Ryo Aono, and American, Kelly Clark, took home the victories at the 2011 Burton New Zealand Open. It was another perfect day at Cardrona Alpine Resort and the level of riding was set high from the start by the talented field of international riders.  Ryo and Kelly both took home $7,000 NZD for their wins and earned 850 TTR ranking points that will count towards both the Halfpipe World Tour Ranking and the Overall World Tour Ranking lists.         The halfpipe finals ran the same format as slopestyle finals using a best-of-three-run format with men and women alternating runs.  Kelly Clark sketched on her first run leaving the door open for the other women including Queralt Castellet (ESP), Hannah Teter (USA) and Gretchen Bleiler (USA) who all have impressive tricks in their repertoire.  But, Kelly was able to nail her second run that held up to take the win, which was made up of a frontside 720, Cab 720, backside 540 and finished with a frontside 900.  Hannah Teter stomped a smooth run to take second place and Queralt Castellet was going big all day and ended up in third place. The men's leader board shifted with each run and the Japanese contingent was on fire putting down some impressive tricks.  In the end, it was Ryo Aono (JPN) who landed a near-flawless run consisting of a frontside 1080, Cab 1080, frontside 900, backside 900 and ended with a frontside double cork 1080.  Louie Vito (USA) was looking good all day taking second place and Iouri Podladtchikov (SUI) ended up in third.

Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour 2010/11 Season Highlights

Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) and Jamie Anderson (USA) were officially crowned the 2010/11 Swatch TTR World Tour Champions at the 29th annual 6Star Burton US Open today. After their amazing performances throughout this 10-month long season, they were each rewarded with the TTR Champion trophies and $50,000 USD along with the glory of both becoming multiple TTR World Tour title-holders. Peetu and Jamie are no strangers to the TTR podium. This is Jamie's second TTR World Tour title and Peetu has made history once again earning a remarkable third consecutive TTR title. The Burton US Open is the last major stop of the 2010/11 TTR World Tour season and played host to the official Swatch TTR World Tour awards ceremony at the close of the event. This season, Peetu competed on three different continents and did not discriminate when choosing what types of events to attend. Peetu does it all and does it all well. He began this season in Asia at the 6Star Shaun White Oakley Air & Style in Beijing, China where he placed fifth in the big air competition. From Asia, he moved on to Europe where he took fourth place at the 6Star O'Neill Evolution halfpipe in Davos, Switzerland. Peetu found himself back on the podium when he took down the 6Star Burton European Open halfpipe title and placed second in slopestyle. And, at the 6Star Billabong Air & Style in Innsbruck, Austria, Peetu took another second place. Just one week later, he won the 6Star Nike 6.0 Air & Style in Munich, Germany, which was the result that ended up clinching his TTR World Tour title for the 2010/11 season.Jamie dominated in the 2010/11 season claiming victories on slopestyle courses all over the globe, starting off with the 5Star New Zealand Open and the 6Star O'Neill Evolution slopestyle competitions. She went on to win the 6Star Burton European Open and the Oakley Arctic Challenge slopestyle events, which set her high above the rest of her competitors. Her second TTR World Tour title was confirmed at the Burton US Open where she took second place in slopestyle.

TTR Burton European Open 2011 Halfpipe Highlights

The final day of the 12th annual Burton European Open went off today with Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) and Kelly Clark (USA) taking home the halfpipe titles, earning themselves 1000 Swatch TTR Ranking points, a piece of the $125,000 USD prize purse and automatic qualification into the 2012 World Snowboarding Championships taking place next February in Oslo, Norway. Peetu advanced in the TTR Tour Ranking to World No. 3 with his win today strengthening his position in the TTR Top 10, while Iouri Podladtchikov (SUI), who today placed third, moved into the tour lead. On the women's side Kelly Clark moved into World No. 11, putting some pressure on the women in the Top 10.Kelly Clark Brings a Top Performance Despite Morning FogThe day kicked off with a small delay due to some clouds hanging over the pipe forcing the organizers to change the format. All women went from semi-finals straight into a two-run final of 21 riders. Kelly Clark (USA), once again, set the bar for the rest of the field and put down her best run on her first drop throwing down a frontside 900, backside 540, frontside 720 and finished with a Cab 720. With her first place finish here, combined with her victory last weekend at the 6Star O'Neill Evolution, Kelly has made her presence known in the Swatch TTR World Ranking and will be a competitor to watch out for throughout the rest of the season. Kelly had this to say about the day, "I love this pipe and I come here every year. It's one of my favorite events to come to because the pipe is so much fun to ride," and she continued to talk about her win saying, "It's great winning another 6Star event, I'm looking forward to the Burton Canadian Open and the Burton US Open and to see if I can't get a few more good results."Behind Kelly was young Spanish rider, Queralt Castellet, who has been shaking things up in the women's halfpipe scene and broke into the TTR Top 50 with her second place finish today, as did the Japanese rider, Yuki Furihata, who placed third.History Repeats Itself in the Men's ...

TTR O'Neill Evolution 2011 - Full Halfpipe Wrap Up

http://www.ttrworldtour.com - Local Davos hero Christian Haller and American halfpipe star Kelly Clark took top honours at the O'Neill Evolution Halfpipe finals in a spectacular day of snowboarding action. It was a close fought final in the 6Star TTR Men's competition with the top three on the podium -- an all Swiss affair of Christian Haller, Iouri Podladtchikov and Jan Scherrer -- exchanging the lead after each heat. It was Christian however who took the final victory and the $15,000 prize money after his third heat run with a score of 87.45 for a run of a Backside 540 Melon, Frontside 1080 Tail, Cab 1080 Nose and Frontside 900 Mute. "I'm feeling great. I wouldn't have expected it -- honestly!" he said. "I grew up in Davos and I grew up riding this pipe so it makes it even more speical than a normal win," said Christian. "It's also a really good feeling to be on top with two of my best buddies."Last year's winner Iouri Podladtchikov had been leading after his second run of a Cab 720, Frontside Crippler, Backside Double McTwist 1260 and a Frontside 1080 Tail. "I was thinking that I could have made it two wins in two years after landing my trick. But it feels great to have Christian in front of me. Of course it hurts a bit. But it's Christian. If it was someone else I would probably be more pissed right now."The surprise of the day came from the 16 year old Swiss rider Jan Scherrer who finished third after leading at the end of the first heat. "I was so surprised," said Jan who goes to school here in Davos. "It's such a huge result for me!"The Women's event saw a different show with Kelly Clark dominating throughout -- and the crowd gathered at the bottom of the Jakobshorn loving every move."I've never been here before," said Kelly. "But it's great. Having another first place let alone at a 6star is just great!"The 27 year old American continues to push women's riding, her second run consisting of a Frontside 900, Backside 540 Mute, Frontside 720, Indy and Cab 720 Mute. "The sport is progressing and I just feel honoured ...

TTR O'Neill Evolution Davos 2011 - Trailer

From January 2nd until the 8th expect to be mesmerised as some of the best snowboarding talent in the world pushes the limits and take to the skies from the halfpipe and slopestyle sitting at the base of the Jakobshorn, in Davos, Switzerland. The 6Star Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour event is once again pushing new boundaries. The event for 2011 now holds a 6Star TTR rating for both the women's Slopestyle as well as the Halfpipe. And this year also sees the 6Star rating for men extended to the 2-hit Slopestyle course for the first time. The Halfpipe finals will take place on Friday January 7th as 10 riders hit the 6 metre high, 130 metre long and 20 metre wide pipe which sits impressively at the base of the Jakobshorn.Saturday sees a day of Slopestyle finals that will run into a floodlit night finale as the riders take to the skies under the gasps of the crowds gathered at the foot of the course."We always want to bring something new and exciting to this event," said O'Neill Global Event Director, Bernhard Ritzer. "It's called Evolution after all," he said. "This year we're changing the Slopestyle radically following feedback from the riders for less but more challenging features, and a mix of day and night riding will bring variation and challenges for the riders."In addition to the spectacular show ahead, there are also new developments behind the scenes. A new judging system -- the Snowboard Live Scoring System (SLS) -- will be introduced allowing everyone to see how judges give points by scoring each trick individually in a rider's run and adding a flow score for the overall impression of the run. With the top ten Swatch TTR World Tour men invited and the top eight women, this is bound to be a week of non-stop action. So far confirmed for O'Neill Evolution 2011 are Seb Toots, Janne Korpi, Gian Simmen, Kjersti Buaas, Sharka Pancchova, Chanelle Sladics, Kelly Clark and Nadja Purtschert with more names to follow in the coming weeks.
